Permission to Play with Susan: An intuitive painting experience for recovering perfectionists, overthinkers and the creatively curious

An intuitive painting experience for recovering perfectionists, overthinkers & the creatively curious.

When was the last time you created something simply for the joy of it—not worrying about whether you were doing it “right” or whether the finished product was good enough?

As children, we create naturally. We paint, draw, move, make messes, and follow our curiosity without giving much thought to the outcome. Somewhere along the way, many of us learn to judge what we create—or decide we simply aren’t creative at all.

Permission to Play is an invitation to set those judgments aside and rediscover the freedom of creating without expectations.

We’ll begin with a short conversation about creativity, followed by meditation and gentle movement to help you shift out of your thinking mind and into your body. From there, we’ll explore playful painting practices designed to loosen perfectionism and quiet the inner critic—using our non-dominant hand, painting with our eyes closed, getting our hands into the paint, and following whatever wants to emerge.

There’s no image to create and no right or wrong way to do it. The emphasis is on curiosity, experimentation, and noticing what happens when you allow yourself to respond to the painting rather than trying to control it.

This isn’t about making “good art.” It’s about giving yourself permission to play, trust your impulses, and perhaps rediscover a creative part of yourself that’s been waiting for a little room to breathe.

No art or painting experience is needed. Come as you are, get a little messy, and see what happens when you let go of the outcome.
